Life is Spiritual
Written by Dewald Pretorius
It was a Monday night at Waypoint and me and Janelle arrived early for the Young Adult’s Life Group (or Community group as the newer members might call it). Seeing as we were there before anybody else, we decided to play a bit of pool.
We were nearing the end of our first game and Janelle was leading far. The victory was literally in arms reach of her and I hadn’t even gotten one ball in at this point. However, the game wasn’t over yet!
I made an impossible comeback and eventually won the game with a trick shot that was far beyond my own capability. So, the question is then how on earth did I win? I’ll tell you the same as I told Janelle, “Life is spiritual”. I jested with her by telling her that I commanded a few angels to turn the match in my favour and prayed out loud (under my mask) that I would make the impossible shot that got the eight-ball in.
At that point we laughed…well I did, Janelle was irritated with me because she lost. Even thought at that time I made it sound like a joke, I was actually being dead serious. As I made that prayer, I knew I was going to win, because I know the power our words hold.
You see God gave us an amazing power to speak life into the world when He rained the Holy Spirit down on us. We often underestimate the power of our words and prayers. We think it doesn’t really matter what we say, it’s just words right?
WRONG!
Remember God spoke the world into creation as, “God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light” (Genesis 1:3, AMP). The Spirit of God lives within us and as such He has bestowed upon us the great gift of speaking life or destruction into the world.
Still not convinced that words spoken aloud hold power? Well, remember what scripture tells us about Jesus, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1, NKJV). Christ is the Word. That is why He made it so that your words matter, so choose wisely.
So, the take-aways from this story is:

So, the take-aways from this story is:
- Your words matter
- Pray without doubt
- Everything in life is spiritual (even something as small as a pool game with a friend)
- God loves stacking the odds against himself so that when His blessings occur in the most seemingly impossible of situations, it is undeniable to others that He is the King
- Trust in the Lord no matter how dire the situation might seem, for His blessings are far greater than your current struggles
